Come on, lets hear 'em. From the men AND the ladies.
My goal right now is to maintain a body fat % of 19% and to tone (what women call toning is building in a feminine kinda way lol) a little bit more. Main focus: calves. Also, I would like to be able to run, not jog, for more than 3 miles without stopping, hopefully 4.

Honestly, I've accomplished my health goals when I was more seriously into powerlifting. For now, my main focus is just to stay fit both cardio-wise and muscle-wise. I'm sometimes tempted to get back heavily into powerlifting just to shoot for the 500 pound benchpress mark, but it's really not worth it, especially if I'm not doing it for any kind of competition.

That is still a decent goal - maintenance. Cool. Yeah the 500 lb bench press mark would be great if you were entering a competition but otherwise why make that a high priority, I agree...Anything else you'd like to add?

I got a few current goals, my youngest brother and I have been doing.
myself.
Bench about 320lbs. by Feburary current bench is about 270lbs. Work on my calves, lose my belly.. even though a lot of people say i'm not fat, well its just not cutting it, oh and my ass. haha..
My lil brother who is 15 is working on everything, he is 6'2 (write this down ladies), plays varisty football, is an offensive gaurd, has a 3.8 GPA, takes AP classes.. lol enough love connection .. On a serious note, he is on his max bench of 225lbs.. and can do 10 reps of 180.. He has to hit 35-36 reps in one set of 180 by next summer in time for SPARQ training camps. Another thing he's working on is his 40' times, its supposed to be under 5 sec's, he is managing a 5.7-5.9 sec 40', and his lat. jump.
These are things we are working on, hopefully we git-r-done by our goal times.

So, how long have you been into fitness? And how old are you? Was your brother influenced by you in this at all or did he start on his own? Just curious about that because I like to see younger adults taking care of themselves and it seems that they don't bother thinking about it until they are into their 20s.
Wow, that is very impressive for a 15 year old!

Im 22, I got back in the gym when i moved to the east coast, then kept on going when I came here. There was a point where I stopped going to the gym just cause I became really busy. My brother Shawn used to be bigger, and shorter, after 8th grade he started growing taller like crazy. Basically freshman and sophmore year he started working out (cardio), and played football as a starter. This year is when he started to lift weights hard, to get ready for next year football camps (sparqs). Sparqs is a nike football camp thats gonna be held next year, theres gonna be college coachs that scout these camps to find potential college football players. So basically im trying to get him ready for next year. :hehehe:

Oh dont worry about it, just givin you a hard time for fun...
If you are not seeing results then you will have to make that an hour, at a resistance level that you can maintain. If you are seeing results then stick with it unless you hit a plateau. Thats good advice that has never done me wrong. Lifting weights is good advice...building muscle does increase your basal metabolic rate, the rate in which you burn calories when you are sedentary.

My goal is to have a physique like this:
Granted, he has a bit of a spare tire, but I kid you not, he's actually in PHENOMENAL shape, and one of the most incredible athletes in history. His cardio is unreal, he is deceptively strong (he outmuscles guys that are 300 lb muscleheads), and he can kick anyone's ass for 30 minutes straight and not let up. Basically I'd have to lose about 40 lbs, and then put on another 15 lbs or so of muscle.

get back into cardio after my ankle and knee get better, and start back up on dynamic tension and isometrics. Goal is to lose about 35 pounds and get back into the 210 220 lb range and do at least 30 pull ups consecutively.

Really? My fat ass (6'2", 250 lbs) can do a pull-up. But just one. :P Which is still better than most people, and for someone of my size and the fact I haven't worked out in forever isn't too shabby.
But yeah, my plan is to kill off at least 35 lbs (I don't get too hung up on exact numbers, I'm going more for a range), by working out and by being militant about what I eat, and then when that plateaus I'll jack up my workload by adding some BJJ training and MMA. Then I'll go from there. I may decide to stay at 210 or so. But if not, I'll start doing the old bodybuilding exercises for mass, and then of course increase my eating to my old hulk days. :) Ideally I'd like to put on as much muscle as possible. I don't know how much I'm capable of doing, but I've put on 15 lbs before, so I know I can do again. Then I'd be a demon. I may not ever have a 6 pack, but I'll be able to hip toss you into the ground, break your arm, and then steal your girlfriend. Can a 6 pack do that? :D

I don't doubt you, but I don't have a girlfriend....
I haven't been able to do a pull up in a long time. Right now, I'm back to skinny and trying to build...almost 5'7 and 117 lbs, long limbs, slender build and I need some muscle to fill out my arms and legs and then I will finally be able to do pull ups. At least I can do push ups. I dont know why but its harder for women. I'm in great shape aerobically...but need much more strength training. I need a trainer! I think I might hire one.

Toe raises, and donkey calf raises. try doing 4 sets with rep ranges of 10-15 reps. start with 15 reps at a weight, go to 12 reps the next set, 10 reps 3rd set, and back to 15 reps on the last set. increase the weight between each set, and decrease it again for your last set of 15.

Leg Extensions
Description:
stand erect, with feet at shoulder width apart, knees slightly bent. Turn your left foot at a 45 degree angle, shifting all weight onto the left leg. Bend your right knee as you bring up your right leg as high as possible, supporting the upper leg with your hand. The knees may be locked. The thigh muscle should be relaxed and the calf muscles tensed in this position. Your toes should be pointed strait up, towards the ceiling. (For variation, you may point the foot in line with the legs.) Slowly relax the calf and bend the knee to let the lower leg swing freely.
# of Reps.
Begginers: 5 reps
Intermediate: 10 reps
Advanced: 15 reps
Count:
This exercise should be done to a count of 5
1-4 raising the calf up
5 releasing the calf
Effects:
This is an intensive conditioner of the calf and hamstring muscles. As you do the upward movement, you should feel tension down the entire length of the leg. The stretch enhances flexibility, while the tension in the calf indicates the build up of muscles.
Martial arts benefits:
This strengthens the vital muscles used for kicking. your power should be vastly improved on instep or heel kicks.
thats out of my dynamic tension book. good luck.

I wouldn't follow the 5 reps thing it said to do. 5 reps is just too few, even for a beginner, (which i assume you are not,) for calves, because they're too small a muscle group for such a low number of reps, and the latest research on training recommends that you stick to a higher number of reps with calves because it is so hard to bring them out.

Any time you want to build, you really need the weights. Running can actually break down muscle if you do it intensely enough for long periods of time. Running will help you get more defined, but not build.

Bruce lee created jeet kune do exclusively for him. his body type, his speed and his agility. he took many forms from many arts and tailor fitted them to be the most effective for HIM. what people don't understand is that jeet kune do is not for everyone. unless you have the speed and agility of Bruce, then i don't recommend it. at first he didn't want to teach, but people wouldn't understand why he didn't want to teach them his art. so they started to pay him to teach them, good way to pay bills, doing something you're good at don't you think? thats the only reason he taught people jeet kune do.

Well, I'm sure it was tailored for himself, and not too many people can benefit from it in the ways he did, but I think its basic philosophies and techniques are still good to know. Besides, if you really think about it, Jeet Kune Do is what popularized the concept of mixed martial arts. It was the first system to combine strikes and grappling the way it did, which is what I personally like about it. You rarely hear of anyone committing to just one style of martial arts anymore, and that's what JKD's all about. Its basic teachings are the most practical for real-life self-defense. lol Yeah I'm sure not too many of us can emulate the one-inch punch, but again, -- the basics.
