Unlike the Audi Le Mans quattro, Volkswagen was more coy about the future of the delightful concept R, the small Boxster-like mid-engine roadster it debuted. The closest we could find to a production green light was this quip from the press kit, "This… indicates a view to the future of the brand and possible commitments in the sports car segment." We're not afraid to make commitments, especially not to sports cars. The concept R is powered by a 262-hp, 258 lb-ft mid-mounted V6 driving the rear wheels. That gets it from 0-62 mph in 5.3 seconds and to a governed top speed of 155 mph, though VW is happy to point out that it could reach 164 mph without the governor.
