Hey Guys!
You really gonna like this..
tell me what you think after ok?!

Just in case you might think of Iraq as "only" an oil rich nation, ruled by an evil dictator for 30 years, whether it has been supporting terrorists or not may not be very important. Here are a few important facts regarding history and roles that this nation has played down through history.

DID YOU KNOW??????

1. The Garden of Eden was in Iraq. (it sure doesn't look much like Paradise on Earth today, thanks to Saddam)

2. Mesopotamia which is now Iraq was the cradle of civilization.

3. Noah built the ark in Iraq. *

4. The Tower of Babel was in Iraq.

5. Abraham was from Ur, which is in Southern Iraq.

6. Isaac's wife Rebekah was from Nahor which is in Iraq.

7. Jacob met Rachel in Iraq.

8. Jonah preached in Nineveh - which is in Iraq.

9. Assyria which is in Iraq conquered the ten tribes of Israel.

10. Amos cried out in Iraq.

11. Babylon which is in Iraq destroyed Jerusalem.

12. Daniel was in the lion's den in Iraq.

13. The 3 Hebrew children were in the fire in Iraq (that's good news to know that JESUS has been in Iraq too as the 4th person in the fiery furnace)!

14. Belshazzar, the King of Babylon, saw the "writing on the wall" in
Iraq. (which hopefully Saddam will too)!

15. Nebuchadnezzar, King of Babylon, carried the Jews captive into Iraq.

16. Ezekiel preached in Iraq.

17. The wise men were from Iraq. (Where are the "wise" men today)?

18. Peter preached in Iraq.

19. The "Empire of Man" described in Revelation is called Babylon which was a city in Iraq!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And you have probably seen this one. Israel is the nation most often mentioned in the Bible. *But do you know which nation is second? *It is Iraq! *However, that is not the name that is used in the Bible.
The names used in the Bible are Babylon, Land of Shinar, and Mesopotamia. The word Mesopotamia means between the two rivers, more exactly between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers. The name Iraq, means country with deep roots. *Indeed Iraq is a country with deep roots and is a very significant country in the Bible. *
Here's why.
* Eden was in Iraq--Genesis 2:10-14
* Adam &Eve were created in Iraq--Genesis 2:7-8
* Satan made his first recorded appearance in Iraq--Genesis 3:1-6
* Nimrod established Babylon & the Tower of Babel were built in Iraq. Genesis 10:8 97 & 11:1-4
* The confusion of the languages took place in Iraq--Genesis 11:5-11
* Abraham came from a city in Iraq--Genesis 11:31 & Acts 7:2-4
* Isaac's bride came from Iraq--Genesis 24:3-4 &10
* Jacob spent 20 years in Iraq--Genesis 27:42-45 & 31:38
* The first world Empire was in Iraq--Daniel 1:1-2 &2:36-38
* The greatest revival in history was in a city in Iraq--Jonah 3
* The events of the book of Esther took place in Iraq--Esther
* The book of Nahum was a prophecy against a city in Iraq--Nahum
* The book or Revelation has prophecies against Babylon, which was the old name for the nation of Iraq--Revelation 17 &18
*No other nation, except Israel, has more history and prophecy associated it than Iraq.
NOW WAIT im not done yet
Just to refresh our memories you guys...
Every decade or so, we should remind ourselves of who the Iraqis are:
1. Twelve thousand years ago, they invented irrigated farming. They got to be so good at it that, today; they can still produce all the food they need even when "sanctions" are imposed. *:)
2. They invented writing. * :mrgreen: *
3. They figured out how to tell time. *:!:
4. They founded modern mathematics. :bang: *
5. In the Code of Hammurabi, they invented the first legal system that protects the weak, the widow and the orphan. :angel: *
6. Five thousand years ago, they had philosophers who attempted to list every known thing in the world. *:pimp:
7. They were using Pythagoras' theorem 1,700 years before Pythagoras. :mrgreen: *
8. They invented artificial building materials, some kind of pre-fab-crete stuff used to construct high-rise towers. *:eh:
9. Ur, in southeast Iraq, is assumed to be the place we're all descended from. :jive: *
10. They were the first people to build cities and live in them. *:?:
11. For thousands of years, they wrote the greatest poetry, history and
"Sagas" in the world. *:love: *8)
12. Because they were great horse breeders, they invented the cavalry in war. *:disgusted:
13. The Iraq Museum in Baghdad contains some of the most outstanding stone, metal and clay sculptures and inscriptions created in the history of the world. Some of them are more than 7,000 years old. . *:alright:
14. The first school for astronomers was established by Iraqis. This is how the "wise men" got to be so wise. They knew how to follow the star. *:applause:
15. Beginning around 800 A.D., the Iraqis founded universities that imported teachers from throughout the civilized world to teach medicine, mathematics, philosophy, theology, literature and poetry. *:love:
16. For the first 1,200 years of its existence, Baghdad was regarded as one of the most refined, civilized and festive cities in the world. *:rockout3:
17. Abraham, the father of Israel, was from Iraq. *:D
18. Abraham, the father and "model" of Christian faith, was from Iraq. *8)
19. Iraq has the second largest reserve of oil. *:bang:
20. Before 1980, Iraq had the largest number of date palm trees in the world. :goofy: *
21. Iraqi wheat, rice, and meat are considered from the finest types in the world. *:shock:
22. Iraq has the biggest soft water/population ratio in the world, seven rivers. *:mrgreen:
23. Iraqis once had the highest percent of highly educated people. *:think:
24. Iraqis one of the world's richest territories in historical sites and holy shrines. *:jive:
So HOW proud are you to be an Iraqi? with respect to everyone else who is not......
Just going through the first few...and realizing that they weren't facts at all, discouraged me from reading the rest.
If we were going to list all of man's accomplishments, we'd triple the size of chaldeanchat's database before we got to C. *So while Iraqis have 15-20 tied to their belt... a lot of people have done a lot of (more) special things.
"7. They were using Pythagoras' theorem 1,700 years before Pythagoras."
^The only impressive thing. *Although, One could always claim that Leibniz never invented differential and integral calculus. *The Chaldeans did. *Take my word for it, would you?
i agree with sam...and fyi it isn't sadams fault that there is no garden of eden...since ya know it cant be proven all they have is a foot print in bet bahrin between the tigris and euphrates...wow oh wow that must mean it;s true huh?
This should interist u regarding # 8 {the ark}
:jive: *:jive: *:jive: *
Savoshka
In the Middle Eastern versions of the story, the Ark was built near the ancient city of Shurrupak, located south of Babylon on the Euphrates River in what is now Iraq. According to the Book of Genesis, "the ark rested...upon the mountains of Uratu," a mountain chain renamed Ararat in the 4th century A.D. *This Ararat mountain chain is on the Iraqi border with Turkey.{:jive: *:jive: *:jive: where my village was "amra"} In The Epic of Gilgamesh, the account is practically identical: "for a fifth day and a sixth day the mountain of Nisir held up the ship and did not let it waver."
Assuming the mountain of Nisir, which is not on any map, and the mountain of Ararat, which retains its ancient name, are one and the same, then the Ark came to rest in present-day Turkey, 500 miles away from Shurrupak. It is a desolate, sparsely populated region rising above the headwaters of the Tigris River. To further define the area, it is approximately 600 miles east of Ankara in volcanic territory halfway between the Black and the Caspian Seas.
The Book of Genesis, however, specified the "mountains of Uratu," not "Mount Ararat." Conceivably this could refer to the twin peaks of Great and Little Ararat. To confuse the issue even further, it could also mean something entirely different.
and this is coming from a college history major...
Utanapshitum was the name of protagnist in the Sumerian epic. *Taking into consideration the fact that genesis was compsed in the 5th century, during the time when there was a Jewish diaspora in Babylon, it is not surpsing why there are numerous parallels between the 2 accounts.
kooleug....maybe i'm a little rusty on my history...but when did alexander take babylon? *i know he used to spend a lot of time there bc of the party life as we would say, but i don't remember him actually taking it over...
i'm honestly not even trying to be argumentative...it';s an honeset inquiry.
I think you guys r missing the point....we should not sit here and argue if things like "biblical" events r facts or not, we should realize that Iraq, as a georgaphical entity is important through out time...If Noah's ark is a true story or not is up to your faith, but the fact that this story is told with its setting being in ancient mesopotemia is to something to sit back and refelct on...to be proud of....
Thanks for the correction kooleug.
i agree ojeen...but iraq was not only important because of assyrians and chaldeans...because of muslims...baghdad was the worlds most important city....no city came before it...and it was until the english came in that it remaind that way....so maybe we should stop trying to steal the light from everyone else...
ladeedaaaaaaaaa first civilization lets define a civilization...it doesn;t mean we were the first humans
do you honestly believe that by me explaining that i am a decendent of the babylonians that ppl are going to remember that i am assyrian and what it is? *i always tell ppl and describe it but the point is...nobody knows us...not because we arent in history books, bc we are, but bc we do nothing to make ourselves known...the only reason why ppl in the detroit area know of us...is bc we are always on the damn news for whatever bad things we do...and worst of all is that they dont even know we arent arabic...
and how sad that even though the majority of chaldeans and assyrians know they arent arabic...they still refer to themselves as arabs...and call themselves arabic...
uffffffffffffffffffffffffffff pet peeve of mine is when i hear ppl say they are arabic when infact they are not!
Assuming these Biblical facts are right, then Jacob did't meat Rachel in Iraq, he met her in Harran which is where he ran away to stay with Laban, they called that region Aram Nahraim and today Harran is located in Southeast Turkey.
I was born and raised in Iraq, I love it with all my heart.
teffo, i am not only proud to call my self an Iraqi becuase assyrains and babylonians and its rich rich anceint past. *NO, I am proud to be an IRAQI becuase its a society with many many different ethnic groups, from kurds, to arabs, to mandeans, and different religions as well....people like Saldin, the great general during the crusade, he was a kurd, the great islamic empire of Abbased was from Iraq and i can go on and on... *The point is that Iraq is rich in culture, history, and its unique, just like how other cultures have their own unique thing, which i love and have studied other cultures, ours needs to be voiced and recognized, and the only way to do that is to first and foremost educate our people about it then fund insitutions to be open and educate others. *
thanks allot teffo...
Their are Biblical accounts that have been proven through archeology, historical evidance and so forth, and I chose not to get into that....
However, Jesus said, "blessed those who Believe and have not seen” the importance of faith is to have faith in God without any evidence; I mean we are BLESSED already by God because we believe!
I will write more on this subject tomorrow, i really have to get back to studying....God bless all..peace
As promised, The point of this thread is to show the historical and religious significance of iraq though out time (regardless if the events took place or not, but the idea and thought was began in this area with ancient iraq being the setting) i think people in this site know the importance of iraq after doing some work on this.
As far as the Bible being proven, well thats a whole different subject. *I got some good books on Biblical archeology and Biblical history written by Atheists, and I was astonished at how much they have found. *But then u come across the story of Adam and Eve, did it really happen??? I think people underestimate the story of adam and eve, it is not a mere story of creation, it goes way beyond that.....so lets concentrate on what the story is telling us first and foremost before we begin to question if it actully exited or not....as far as myself, my faith tells me it took place
peace
