Reid: T.O. will not play for Eagles this seasonAssociated Press

PHILADELPHIA -- Terrell Owens won't return to the Philadelphia Eagles this season, coach Andy Reid said Monday.

The outspoken star receiver was suspended for Sunday night's 17-10 loss at Washington, and will remain suspended for three more games. After that, the Eagles plan to deactivate Owens for the rest of the season.

"The league has been notified by the players' union that they will be grieving our right to take that action," Reid said, "therefore there is nothing more that I can say at this point."

Owens was suspended over the weekend following a tumultuous week in which he criticized the club, fought with a former teammate and took another verbal shot at quarterback Donovan McNabb.

"I do want it to be clear that this decision is a result of a large number of situations that accumulated over a long period of time," Reid said.

Owens "had been warned repeatedly about the consequences of his actions," Reid said. "We gave Terrell every opportunity to avoid this outcome."

Owens was suspended Saturday, two days after he said the Eagles showed "a lack of class" for not publicly recognizing his 100th career touchdown catch in a game on Oct. 23. In the same interview with ESPN.com on Thursday, Owens said the Eagles would be better off with Green Bay's Brett Favre at quarterback.

Owens was involved in a fight last week with former Eagles defensive end Hugh Douglas, who remains with the team as its "ambassador."

McNabb, who feuded with Owens throughout the summer and has been a constant target of his criticism, finally took a stand in the matter, saying the Eagles might be "better off" without Owens.

"Obviously it is tough losing a guy of his caliber, his ability, but I think we might be better off," McNabb said after throwing an interception that sealed the loss to Washington. "I think what we did tonight, we showed that we played well together. I think we also showed that when given the opportunity, guys can make plays for us. We're 4-4. We're not 1-7. I think that's the way to look at it. For the guys in the locker room, we win together and we lose together."

LMAO I was watching Mike & Mike in the Morning on EPSNEWS before I went to work, and they gave him the "Just Shut Up" award for this week. I thought he was most deserving lol.

T O is thinking about coming to Denver.

the guy is NOT a team player.. Good luck if he does. If anything, he is always shooting himself in the foot.

He WAS one "bad mofo." Jerry is old , thats why hes not the starter because hes not as quick as he once was. T.O. will be good for any team if he acts right again. But you do not want him if his attitude still the same.

T.O. is suspened. Bad call for the Eagles, this is a bad move. Yes he talks a lot of smack about his team and some players but come on guys he performs. He is one of the best wide receviers in the league. You just can't suspend someone like that and expect to go to the superbowl

I dont give a shit if hes the best player in history. As I mentioned on the other thread...NO RESPECT towards teammates you will simply not get along as a team! They'll be in worse situations if he still plays with them. That guy needs to learn how to shut up and respect.

I'm willing to bet the "Other" Wide Recievers on the team are able to perform as well. This was a "must do" for the Eagles. You get this enigma out of the locker room and out of the organization, and that gives them room for the other recievers (G. Lewis, R. Brown, L.J. Smith, etc) playing time and experiance to grow with Donovan McNabb and the offense. TRUST ME, they'll be WAY better off without T.O. causing problems within the organization.

I heard on the sports news yesterday that NFLPA told the Eagles to cut T.O. instead of suspending him for the rest of the season. They might just do that because he is a free agent after the season ends. If he does get cut where do you think that he will go? Atlanta would be the first team come to mind, but if he can't get along with McNabb how would he get along with Vick. Another choice would be maybe Green Bay there still in the hunt for the playoffs because you guys know that the NFC north is still anyones game. LOL. What do you think

Its goin to be hard for him to find a team. Green Bay is desperate for a WR. That'll be a good choice or Titans.

You got to be kidding me?

when it all comes down to it. TO needs to learn the basic fundamental in the world of sports. "There is no 'I' in 'TEAM'!". Eventually he will burn all his bridges and run out of options. Then NO team will want him.

I heard the perfect quote about T.O. on ESPN this morning...

"He's the ultimate 'I' guy, in the ultimate 'we' sport".
