Daunte Culpepper out for remainder of the Season

Associated Press

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- Minnesota Vikings quarterback Daunte Culpepper will miss the rest of the season and perhaps part of next season because of a severe injury to his right knee.

Culpepper sustained damage to the three major ligaments in the knee: the anterior cruciate, posterior cruciate and medial collateral.

Coach Mike Tice said Monday that Culpepper, who was hurt on the final play of the first quarter in Sunday's 38-13 loss at Carolina, will have surgery in the coming weeks once the swelling subsides.

Recovery from such injuries can take up to a year. "He has a long rehab ahead," Tice said.

The Vikings (2-5) will use veteran Brad Johnson as their starter, with Shaun Hill moving up to backup status.

Culpepper, bothered with a sprained MCL and bursitis in his knee this season, was hit low and from the side by Panthers cornerback Chris Gamble while scrambling for a first down.

Ya I heard it could sideline him some of next year too. He sustained major damage to all3 of the ligaments in his knee: ACL, MCL, and PCL. sustaining damage to even 1 of those ligaments can threaten a career, and to have a star player like Culpepper go down with damage to all 3 ligaments, it's a shame not only to him, but for the NFL because they would be losing a big star.

I cannot be happier! I hope we dump this chump for good and bring in someone like Jake Delhomme! I personally would love to see to some more Minnesota born players on our team to TRULY represent our state.

That was lame. Daunte is a very good QB. His stats speaks for itself. This year is totally different. Vikes needs some good recievers and there number one reciever just got back from an injury and Moss is gone. You cant have a good QB with bad WRs sort of speak.

Re: Daunte Culpepper out for remainder of the Season

The whole Lake Minnetonka scandal exposed Culpepper as an immature, unintelligent, and incapable leader. A guy with that kind of moral compass could never effectively be a noble leader. That's why I want a good solid family man like a Jake Delhomme or a Kurt Warner to get this team to play like they got a purpose!

Yeh I wouldn't blame you guys. I would be able to say the same thing about my Chicago Bears. We went through I believe 23 or 24 QBs since 2000! Culpepper is a GREAT QB. You just have a grudge against him. A QB can't carry the whole team to victory.

Look, I don't have anything personal against the guy, even though I was very disgusted with the whole Lake Minnetonka scandal and I think it was a huge embarassment to the Great State of Minnesota. I just think the Vikings should start over with a clean slate and a new QB and offense.

Why should they get a new QB? Regardless of that whole scandal thing, yes it was pretty stupid of them to do it but thats not an excuse to get rid a great QB! Let go of that grudge.

Hey, didn't Detroit fans have a grudge against Joey Harrington? The fans over in Michigan demanded his removal and they got Garcia instead.

Thats TOTALLY DIFFERENT. Heres why...JOEY SUCKS! How can you compare him to Daunte Culpepper? Just different. Garcia sucks as well. Its only a matter of time before they get rid of both of them. They might pick up Phillip Rivers instead. Thats another story.

Daunte and Joey have much in common Umi -- they both have accomplished absolutely nothing in terms of big playoff wins!

Like I said about Daunte..hes a great QB but they need to get better o-line and WRs. There D isn't all that great also. Its not Dauntes fault.
